The Sun

I haven't seen the sun in awhile. Like an obedient winter sky, the clouds have veiled the sun for days on end. Grey and gloomy. But even when the sun is out it is still grey and gloomy. The sun in Norway does not raise very high in the sky. It rises, creeps along right over your shoulder, and then sets. The sunrise and sunsets are majestic, a-ha moments (inspiration for the band?), but the journey the sun takes through the day is low, glaring, and sad. The winter sun is a sad sun. For the first time in my life I actually prefer the clouded sky over the sun. Here, when the sun is out, it is low and blinding, especially ricocheting off the snow, and when I'm working outside I am wishing for cloud cover to mute the white light.

Perhaps I am craving the gloom because my nose is running, I have an itch in my throat, I am tired but I can't sleep. I am sick. I just want to spray more vicks sinex up my nose and go into a fog. My energy feels as naked as the trees out my window.

  1. That's exactly how I feel! We haven't seen the sun in weeks. Michigan winters are so blah. I'm over it. Hope you're feeling better. Drink some tea with honey - I'm having some right now. Love you!

  2. My cold is still going strong and so is the sun. It has been shining two days straight!
