Going into the City

This is a picture of the shopping area of Stavanger, where I went to see a movie last night. I did not take this photo. Last night in the shopping center there were hardly as many people and the ones that were out did not look so 1980's. I did not have my camera with me, so dated picture explained. I wanted to show a picture of the shopping center because I thought it was cool. A much more pleasant area to shop in than the strip malls of America. This is made for walking, not driving. Very European. But speaking of America, I was surprised to see 7-Eleven and Kelly Temporary Services, and less surprised to see McDonald's and Burger King.
At the cinema I learned several cultural differences. In Norway when you buy your movie ticket you are reserved a seat. All seats are numbered that you are assigned. Not like the first come, first serve in America. Also, they play local commercials instead of movie previews. How the hell do I know what to come see next month if I don't know what movies will be playing? Damn it. I saw Sherlock Holmes, which by the way is fantastic. If you haven't seen it, I suggest that you do. It was cool seeing an English speaking movie with Norwegian subtitles. Although it was inconvenient during the short dialogue that was in french. I didn't know what the hell was going on.
The little I saw of Stavanger, it looks like a really cool city. I can't wait to explore more of it. I was told there is nothing better than sitting on the fjord on a sunlit summer night listening to live music, drinking beer, and watching the boots docking. Hum, how can I pass that up? Maybe I should make sure to stick around for summer?

  1. So, ignore my email. I should have checked your blog first. What were the concessions like? (BTW, I haven't seen the movie, but the French thug said, "Did you miss me?")

  2. I'm so glad you pointed out the 80's dressed people. I might've missed that.
